Who should attend this course
Defensively minded individuals who are interested in learning more about safe, responsible, and effective home defense, and have completed one of the following:
- NSSF First Shots – Handgun Course >
- NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course >
- USCCA Protector Academy Level 1 Qualification >
- Private training with a Davenport Guns instructor covering the required competencies
- You have been shooting your whole life, but have never taken a formal firearms class (contact instructor)
- Other equivalent training or experience (contact instructor)
Course Description
Learn about making a home defense plan, assess your home’s vulnerabilities and how to mitigate them, learn about various types of home defense weapons, and practice basic shooting techniques for home defense.
Learn the basic competencies to effectively defend your home.
What To Bring
- Handgun or pistol caliber carbine
- 100 rounds of ammunition
- Eye and ear protection
- Clothing that is safe to shoot in, crew neck shirts, close-toed shoes, tight fitting wrap around eye protection and/or a baseball cap to deflect spent brass away from the eyes

Lesson 7 –Cover/concealment, what it is, what it isn’t, and how to use it to our advantage
Lesson 8 –Basic armed home defense tactics
Lesson 9 –Basic shooting techniques relevant to home defense scenarios
